2019-01-28

Now that the restoration of the exterior of the Cathedral of Santiago is almost finished, the restoration of the inside is started. During these activities, which will last 12 months and start on 28 January, no (pilgrims) misses can be dedicated in the cathedral.

The cathedral will remain open for visitors where alternating parts of the cathedral will be closed. The image of the apostle James will remain continuously accessible, but the ritual embrace will remain possible. The cathedral is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

During the restoration more 1 door will be open, the Puerto Platerias, on the south side of the cathedral.

The daily masses are dedicated in several other churches during the intervening period. For example, the day-long pilgrim mass is moved from 12:00 to the Iglesia de San Francisco. Great celebrations such as Easter, Christmas and the name day of James will be held in the church of St. Martin Pinario. The botafumeiro will not be present here. An overview of all the misses, together with a map of the cathedral and an Santiago can be found here.
