Gastronomical Trip through Northern Spain
Detailed itinerary (view all days )Day 1: Arrive in LaguardiaYou will arrive by car to the magnificent village of Laguardia.
During the next two nights you will sleep in a hotel equipped with everything you have always dreamed of, relax, enjoy delicious cuisine, wine, spa sessions, history, nature ... all in a unique environment.
Day 2: LaguardiaThis Villa was designated the "Guard of Navarre" as a result of its strategic situation against Castile and its military importance.
During the nineteenth century the walls of Laguardia suffered great destruction due to the Independence and Carlist wars. Its medieval layout and a good part of the walls erected in the XIII century are still preserved.
The wine culture is closely tied with the villa under whose houses the "caves" or bodegas have been excavated. Around the villa you can see wineries of more modern architecture as well.
You will find more information about the area in the Spain is More Guidebook that we send you a few days before your departure.
Day 3: LeónYou will leave Laguardia to go to Astorga. Along the way you will pass through Burgos.
León is a city of great charm that has one of the most beautiful old quarters in all of Spain, called Barrio Humid. In this area you'll find lots of bars where you can taste wine, 'go for shorts' (small beers) or have some other night drink.
The gastronomy of León is very varied, complete and consistent. Undoubtedly, the emphasis is on the meat, sausage and the legumes due to its climate. It is also a land recognized for its wines, where we highlight two zones in particular, the area of the wines known as 'Lands of Leon' - which has gradually carved a name for itself in the immense Spanish wine world - and the popular wines of the Bierzo.
Day 4: León and moreEnjoy a day of leisure in the picturesque province of León. Jump into your car and set off to explore the captivating Bierzo region. One absolute must-see is Las Médulas, a place where you can revel in awe-inspiring vistas from a scenic viewpoint and inhale the pure, invigorating air of this natural wonderland.
When it comes to dining, treat yourself to a culinary delight in Ponferrada or Molinaseca with a sumptuous serving of "botillo."
Other options could include visiting the city of León or going on an excursion to the Torío area. The Vegacervera ravines are a very beautiful and relaxing place. If the weather permits, you can take a dip in the river.
For those seeking a unique experience, consider hiking a portion of the iconic Camino de Santiago Frances.
As you can see, León beckons with a multitude of exciting possibilities for its visitors.
Day 5 & 6: LlanesToday you will go to Llanes where you will spend two nights.
This is a magnificent place to enjoy Asturian cuisine with dishes as copious as the fabada or the famous cachopo, not forgetting a good cider to top it off. It is a town full of atmosphere that will pleasantly surprise you.
For the more adventurous, Llanes is its ideal place. It has a great offering of activities such as surfing, canoeing, golfing, hiking ... And if you are looking for rest, you can visit some of the beaches that are in the surroundings and relax with the sound of the sea in the background.
You will sleep in a quiet and central hotel near Sablon Beach.
Day 7: Arrive in San SebastiánToday you leave Llanes to visit San Sebastian.
Along the way you will pass by beautiful places such as San Vicente de la Barquera, Santander (although you will have to deviate a little), Laredo, Bilbao...
Bilbao is the largest city in the Basque Country. Compared to the elegant San Sebastián, Bilbao has always been considered the ugly sister. Things changed, however, when the American architect Frank Gehry chose Bilbao as the headquarters of the Guggenheim Museum, which gave this city a magnificent, modern and futuristic atmosphere.
Besides the museum there is another thing in Bilbao with which you can't go wrong, the food. Basque cuisine has created the culinary mecca of Spain, and here you'll find the greatest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants in the world.
After Bilbao, you will arrive to San Sebastián. The following two nights will be spent in a modern and charming accommodation in the center of the city.
Day 8: San SebastiánSan Sebastian is an incredible city; a successful mix of tradition with a modern and cosmopolitan atmosphere. The beautiful sandy beaches and the exquisite gastronomy dazzle tourists from all over the world. Here you will sleep in a small accommodation that enjoys a central location and is within walking distance of the beach, promenade, pintxos bars in the Old Town and the lively city center.
Considered the gastronomic capital of the world and rightly so, there are a variety of restaurants, all of them of high quality, to choose from. Of course, we can't forget their miniature masterpieces, the pintxos, as well.
