A carefully crafted self-drive tour through Spain's most diverse and overlooked region – from vineyards and river valleys to wild coastlines and charming seaside towns
Galicia is unlike the rest of Spain. The landscape constantly shifts – from deep, green river valleys and steep vineyards in Ribeira Sacra to dramatic coastlines along Rías Altas and the raw, authentic Costa da Morte – “the coast of death” – far removed from tourism and known for some of the best seafood in the world. The journey concludes in Rías Baixas with its white sandy beaches, summer vibes, and a pleasant microclimate that Spaniards flock to.
On this tour, you will experience the very variation that makes Galicia truly special. We take you through what can rightly be called Galicia's four “worlds,” where each area has its own character, nature, and gastronomy – and where you will get closer to local life.
Along the way, you'll encounter romantic old towns, winding cobblestone streets, small fishing villages, and lively harbors – not to mention a cuisine that is considered among the best in Spain. Here, it’s not just the food that matters, but the entire experience surrounding it.
Galicia is Spain's northwestern corner – rugged, beautiful, and full of contrasts – and for good reason, a preferred holiday destination for many Spaniards.
The hotels are selected with a focus on authenticity, location, and atmosphere – places that provide the perfect starting point for the many experiences that await. We have several carefully chosen options in each area, allowing us to tailor the trip precisely to your wishes – whether the focus is on nature, city life, or a combination, and whether you prefer more luxury or simplicity. The length of the trip and distribution of overnight stays can also be adjusted according to your preferences.
There are also plenty of opportunities for both hiking and cycling along the way, and many places offer bike rentals locally.
Before departure, you will receive our personal guide with a long list of specific recommendations for experiences in each area, small stops along the way, and places you might not find on your own – ensuring you get the most out of your trip.
Traveling with family? Conclude your cultural and active experiences with a stay in Sanxenxo at one of our fantastic resorts. Nowhere else in Northern Spain will you find the same summer vibe and resort atmosphere as here. The perfect ending to your trip if you desire sun, beach, and relaxation.

Detailed itinerary (view all days )Day 1 - 2: Porto
Porto is one of Europe's most charming cities and a perfect start to the journey. The city has given its name to both the country of Portugal and the famous port wine, where history meets vibrant urban life in the finest way.
The old town spreads down towards the Douro River, with colorful houses, narrow streets, and views of the iconic bridges – and is, of course, on UNESCO's World Heritage List. On the other side of the river in Vila Nova de Gaia lie the classic port wine cellars, where you can taste the wines right where they are aged.
Porto is a city that you quickly grow fond of – and we often recommend taking an extra night or two if time allows.
Day 2 - 4: Ribeira Sacra
Ribeira Sacra is one of the most spectacular and least known areas in Spain. Here, you will encounter dramatic landscapes where the Sil River cuts through green cliffs up to 500 meters deep, and vineyards cling to the steep mountainsides.
The area is renowned for its unique wine production – often referred to as “heroic viticulture” – where the work takes place on nearly inaccessible slopes. Today, some of Galicia's most exciting red wines are produced here, and visits to local bodegas provide a unique insight into the region.
A boat trip on the Sil River is one of the truly great experiences. From here, the landscape opens up in a way that you won’t experience from the road, and you will truly get a sense of the area's scale and beauty. Along the way, you will also pass several ancient monasteries hidden in the landscape that have given the area its name – “the holy riverbank.”
On your way to the area, it’s worthwhile to stop in Lugo, where the impressive Roman city wall – one of the best-preserved in Europe – still surrounds the old town.
Ribeira Sacra is a tranquil and picturesque area where the pace slows down, and the experiences are largely about nature, wine, and authenticity.
Day 4 - 6: Rias Altas
Rías Altas is Galicia's wild northern coast – rugged, dramatic, and far less visited than the rest of the region. Here, the Atlantic Ocean meets steep cliffs, small coves, and long, often deserted beaches.
Along the coast, small fishing villages dot the landscape like pearls on a string, and here you’ll find some of the most authentic culinary experiences in Galicia. The restaurants serve freshly caught fish and seafood – simple, local, and truly delicious.
The area offers spectacular natural experiences and hidden gems that not everyone discovers – including the iconic Playa de las Catedrales, where the tides shape the rocks into natural cathedrals.
Here, you can stay classically in a beautiful Galician pazo – a historic manor house – or get close to nature with a luxurious glamping experience under the stars.
Rías Altas is for those who want to experience Galicia in its more raw and authentic form – with plenty of nature, tranquility, and space.
Day 6 - 8: Costa da MorteCosta da Morte is something entirely different from the rest of Galicia. Here, at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the landscape feels wilder, more open, and much more raw.
The coast got its name from the many shipwrecks over time, and this is still felt in the atmosphere – dramatic cliffs, lonely lighthouses, and a nature that is untamed. This is not a place for beach life, but for the feeling of being completely out where the land ends.
In return, you will find some of the most authentic experiences of the entire journey. Small fishing villages where life still revolves around the sea, and where the restaurants serve the day's catch without much fanfare – just really good.
Staying overnight is part of the experience. You can stay in a charming, idyllic hotel in a fishing village – or choose a delightful gastro-luxury stay where architecture and gastronomy go hand in hand.
Day 8 - 10: Rías Baixas
Rías Baixas is something truly special – and for many, the highlight of the journey. Here, you’ll encounter the more summery side of Galicia with a mild climate, pristine white sandy beaches, and a relaxed atmosphere that has made the area a favorite holiday destination for Spaniards.
Along the coast, small fishing and holiday towns are strung together like pearls, and the region is perfect for exploring harbors, viewpoints, and beaches. Here, you can enjoy some of the best seafood in Spain – mussels, oysters, and fish straight from the sea – naturally accompanied by a glass of chilled Albariño from the vineyards just behind the coast.
The area offers plenty of experiences – from UNESCO-protected sites and beautiful coastlines to charming markets and lively summer towns like Sanxenxo, where the atmosphere is a bit more vibrant.
In Rías Baixas we have several different types of accommodations, depending on what you desire. You can stay at a lovely resort in Sanxenxo, perfect for relaxation with a pool, spa, and beach life – ideal for both couples and families. If you prefer something quieter and more authentic, we have small hotels in the vineyards, or you can stay centrally in Cambados, right in the Albariño region with wine bars and restaurants just outside your door.
It is also from here that you can experience Islas Cíes or visit local wineries – experiences we can certainly help arrange.
Rías Baixas is the perfect place to round off your journey – whether you seek relaxation, gastronomy, or experiences.
