Along the same tracks that the historic Robla Railway ran, carrying cars full of coal from the mines in León to Biscay, the Transcantabrian began its career in 1983. And, so one hundred years after the legendary Orient Express, the first Spanish tourist train was born.
The Classic Transcantabrian Train takes the traveler back to that golden age of great railway journeys while he or she is still able to enjoy all the comforts and modern conviences of the twenty-first century. Its rooms and suites, carefully remodeled and acclimated display its full majesty in rail travel.
The suites have a double bed (1.20 cm) as well as other amenities that will make your stay even more pleasant: desk, wardrobe, trunk, minibar and safe. All suites also have a complete and private bathroom.
In an evocative and pleasant atmosphere, a first-class crew will introduce you to the rich culture and cuisine of Castilla and León, Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia and provide the foundation that makes every Classic Transcantabrian trip a genuine pleasure for all the senses.
On this trip you travel from Bilbao to Santiago de Compostela, a journey through Spanish history, from prehistoric times to the present. You personally get to know the Northern Coast of Spain, bordering the Cantabrian Sea. You experience Northern Spain's steep mountains cliffs and green meadows, beaches and joyfully discover the towns and villages along the way. Each place such as León, Bilbao,Santillana del Mar, Santander, Santiago de Compostela, etc... is full of charm, vitality and history, all places that have been converted over the centuries into works of art. On the train you will have double or individual suite compartments, where you will enjoy the necessary privacy on any pleasure trip.
This train itself is fully set up so that you can fully enjoy Spanish culture, art, landscape, cuisine, and of course, the thrill of luxury rail car travel.
This train goes for 6 days and 5 nights from Bilbao to Santiago or vice versa. We combine this train trip with 1 night in Bilbao and 1 night in Santiago.
On your own, you can admire Bilbao's magnificent Cathedral and enjoy the incredible atmosphere of the city and its tapas, small snacks/appetizers. In the same way, you have the possiblity of discovering the beautiful city of Santiago with its legendary Cathedral and wonderful atmosphere full of pilgrims that come to this city from all over the world.

Arrival in Bilbao. This first night, you stay at a 4-star hotel in the center of Bilbao.
Bilbao is one of the most important cities in the Basque Country. Compared to the aristocratic San Sebastian, Bilbao has always been considered the ugly, industrial sister. Things changed when Bilbao was chosen as the home of the magnificent, modern and futuristic Guggenheim Museum, one of the city's highlights.
This town is also an cozy old town, you find alot of culture, plenty of delicious tapas and pinchos bars, some of Spain's best restaurants and a city in rapid development.
Reception at Concordia - Bilbao station, at 10 a.m., on board the train, presentation of the crew and rooms to passengers. Panoramic tour of the city and visit to the Guggenheim museum. Food on board while the train leaves for Santander. Visit of the city in the afternoon, free time and dinner in one of the city's restaurants. Night in Santander.
While having breakfast on board the train we will arrive at Cabezón de la Sal, from where the bus will take us to visit the medieval town of Santillana del Mar and the neocave of Altamira. Food in Santillana del Mar. After lunch, by train we'll enter into Asturian lands, Llanes Visit. Dinner on board and night at Llanes.
After breakfast we will leave by bus to the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturias, Cangas de Onís, then we will go into the heart of the Picos de Europa; Covadonga Sanctuary and Lake Enol. Later we will return to the train that will set off for Oviedo while we eat. Visit to the city, capital of Principado de Asturias and free time. Dinner and night in Oviedo.
After breakfast we start the day with a visit to Gijón, a city near the sea and full of energy, free time and lunch in Gijón. In the afternoon with the train we will arrive in Luarca, visit, dinner and night in Luarca.
While we have breakfast we will arrive at Ribadeo, the first Galician enclave on our route. Visit, free time and food in Ribadeo. In the afternoon, the train will take us to Viveiro. Visit, dinner and night at Viveiro.
On our last day, while having breakfast we will arrive in Ferrol, where we will say goodbye to the crew and we will depart by bus to the Galician capital, Santiago de Compostela. Visit and lunch at the Parador Reyes Católicos, where we will say goodbye around 4:00 p.m.
