Pilgrims - Protect the forest, plant a tree in Santiago

Until next April 13, the pilgrims who can show they have traveled a stretch of the Camino de Santiago will be able to take a step further in their connection with the Galician lands through which they spent their last kilometers of walking planting a tree in the Cidade da Cultura,(City of Cultures) a core of buildings, streets and squares, located about 5 kilometers from the Cathedral of Santiago, on Mount Gaiás.

In this enclave where everything revolves around knowledge, culture and creativity, there will grow, what will be the Forest of the Way (Bosque del Camino), a total of 250 trees that will be added to the Forest of Galicia, the 34 hectares of nature and 12,000 trees of native species that serve to connect the Cidade da Cultura with Santiago de Compostela.

Pilgrims who wish to participate in this activity should go, after registration, to the Pilgrim Office of Santiago de Compostela (Rúa das Carretas, 33), from where a bus will take them to the Cidade da Cultura.

There, there will be a tour from the Centro Gaiás Museum to the plantation area during which an explanation of this architectural complex will be offered. After the planting work, the pilgrims can have a little rest and a light hot dish in the Cantina do Gaiás.
